Lessons in chemistry

2022 turned out to be tough and stressful for all of us because of multiple reasons.  Due to my unexpected and unprepared beforehand aliyah my schedule was quite tight and it was hard to maintain time-management and find time for needed rest.Nevertheless, I had a luck amd rime to read a number of books this year. They helped me in times of stress, calmed me down and it was just  interesting to spend time reading them. In short, I am convinced that a good book can be much better than an average therapist.

Just to write about how great reading books is would be boring, so I have decided to share review of a novel I have been reading recently "Lessons in chemistry"  of Bonnie Garmus. This is New York Times bestseller  and has amazing reviews I fully agree with. Furthermore, Apple TV is going to release drama series based on book’s plot due to its recent popularity among readers worldwide. The novel was translated into Hebrew, Russian and other languages. The protagonist of story is young and talented chemistry researcher Elizabeth Zott, she is creative, pretty and full of scientific ideas. But her main struggle - the 1950s society is far from being feminist and underestimates women's capabilities everywhere, especially in the field of science. Even when Elizabeth fells in love the luck is not on her side. With time she understands that being a single mother is way more complex than formulas in chemistry. Despite all problems in Elizabeth's life, she is a scientist and strongly believes that chemistry is in everything that surrounds  us. But lessons in life can be interesting as well as lessons in science and we will see this later in the book.

The story is original, feminist, captivating and definitely worth time reading it. The main benefit of the book is humanlike characters with their own attitudes, beliefs and life stories. The development of their personalities and changes in life made the novel an amazing page-turner. It shows how life can be unjust and unfair as well as full of fascinating surprises if you take an action. The question remains which way you decide to choose?
